Ghana have been rocked in their preparations for their World Cup qualifying playoff first-leg match against Egypt next week, after Kevin-Prince Boateng was ruled out with injury.
The Black Stars have already lost Rennes defender John Boye and Evian defender Jonathan Mensah to injury and KPB’s withdrawal has left them with a dearth of steel ahead of their clash with the Pharoahs in Kumasi.
Boateng, who has been a revelation for Bundesliga side Schalke since his unexpected move there from AC Milan at the beginning of the season, was injured in his club’s league win over Augsburg last weekend.
He damaged his knee and Schalke have confirmed that he will be unavailable for international duty while he receives treatment.
The 26-year-old has only recently emerged from international exile along with Michael Essien and Andre Ayew and the Black Stars had been hopeful his powerful box-to-box abilities would guide them past recovering African giants, Egypt.
Boateng should be ready to play in the second-leg later this season and, if as expected, the Black Stars qualify for Brazil 2014, he will be one their main attractions at the next World Cup.
