Blues Thrash Steaua

Chelsea dictated play from the start in an impressive 4-0 win over Steaua Bucharest in their Champions League tie at the Stadionul National Arena thanks to a Ramires brace.

Jose Mourinho’s men grabbed the lead when Ramires finished off neat interplay by Andre Schurrle and first-half substitute Samuel Eto, who had previously replaced the injured Fernando Torres, who limped off with a knee injury just after 10 minutes played.

The Londoners then doubled their lead just before half-time; Eto’s shot was saved by Steaua’s goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu but bounced back off defender Daniel Georgievski and into his own goal.

Ramires’ second came after good work down the left once more from the impressive Schurrle, as his his cross was touched on by Mata to the Brazilian who smashed the ball into the roof of the net 10 minutes into the second-half.

Chelsea had another counter-attack which caught the Romanians out as Eto'o raced down the left flank and picked out Willian on the far side. Willian squared the ball back to the edge of the box, where Frank Lampard drilled a low effort in off the post in the 90th minute.

The home side were unlucky to concede the own goal but had been second best all night, and had no answer to Mourinho’s men who had a point to prove after their opening 2-1 shock defeat to Basel, and the 4-0 score-line will no doubt please “The Special One”.
