Chelsea have confirmed that Manchester United rejected their bid for Wayne Rooney.
But the Blues insist that there is no truth in the reports that they offered either Juan Mata or David Luiz to the Red Devils as part of the deal.
The Stamford Bridge club has been forced to comment after the story broke on Wednesday, with manager Jose Mourinho set to address a press conference later in the day.
It makes no sense that Mourinho would allow one of Chelsea's star performers from last season to join a domestic rival.
But reports persists that the manager had his mind made up- regarding Brazil international Luiz at least- even before he arrived for his second stint in West London.
However, the Blues insist that neither Mata nor Luiz were part of their "confidential" bid to land want-away striker Rooney, and that they both will stay.
"The terms of [ the Rooney] offer are confidential but for avoidance of doubt ... didn't include transfer or loan of any CFC players," the club has said in a statement.
