Blues Announce Ba Capture

Senegal forward Demba Ba has completed his move from Newcastle United to Chelsea.

Ba links up with the European champions on a three-and-a-half-year deal after they reportedly matched the GBP 7.5 million to trigger his release clause at the Magpies.

The striker has been sensational for Newcastle, having scored 29 goals in 54 league appearances on Tyneside, and is set to wear number 29 at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle coach Alan Pardew had already confirmed that the deal was all but done a few days ago, and Ba is now happy that things are official.

"It feels good to be here, I'm very happy and very proud," he told Chelsea's official website.

"It was important for me, and for Newcastle, to get my future sorted and now we can move on. Now they have the whole month to buy someone and for me as well, the sooner the better. Now I am here I just need to get settled in.

"When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and that's something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one."

Ba is available for selection ahead of their FA Cup clash with at Southampton as well as their Capital One Cup semi-final against Swansea, but cannot take part in the Europa League after having appeared in the competition for Newcastle.
