Laurent Blanc is in the running to become manager at Serie A club Roma.
The former Napoli and Inter Milan defender has not returned to football since his stint as coach of France came to an end last year.
However, Roma have confirmed that Blanc is on their shortlist of potential coaches to replace Zdenek Zeman.
Zeman was sacked recently after less than one year on the job at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma’s defeat by Cagliari was the final nail in Zeman’s coffin, and with the club languishing in eight place on the Serie A log, 18 points behind leaders Juventus, they decided it was time for a change.
Backroom staff member Aurelio Andreazzoli has taken the reins from Zeman on a temporary basis, but Blanc- who has been touted by some as a potential successor to Alex Ferguson at Manchester united- is the favourite to take Zeman’s job.
"Blanc is part of a shortlist for next season. I like Laurent Blanc," Roma director general Franco Baldini told RMC radio.
"For next season, it's something different. He's on a shortlist with other coaches."
