Bayern Munich midfielder, Javi Martinez, has been ruled until 2015 after suffering a serious injury in the German Supercup.
The 25-year-old sustained a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee as confirmed by the club today.
“Obviously I’m extremely sad at this moment, but don’t worry – I’ll come back even stronger,” Martinez told the club’s official website.
The versatile Spain international will have surgery in Colorado in the next few days and then return to Munich for his recovery programme.
Bayern Munich coach, Pep Guardiola, had already feared the worst after losing 2-0 to Dortmund.
"The worst news is the serious injury sustained by Javi Martinez, because he was in good form. We'll find out how bad it is on Thursday, but I think he'll be out for a long time,” he said after the game.
