Bayern Munich are edging closer to sign Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso after the club confirmed the Spaniard is arriving for his medical.
The club’s financial director Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed an agreement between the two clubs had been struck ‘in principle’.
Bayern are suggested to pay between £4 and £8 million for the 32-year-old and announced via the club's website the Spaniard will have his medical later today.
The 2010 World Cup winner would become the fifth Spanish player in the Bayern squad after Spanish boss, Pep Guardiola, reportedly convinced him to join the German side.
Bayern just signed Roma defender, Mehdi Benatia, for up to £24 million but were still in the hunt for another midfielder after Javi Martinez suffered a long-term injury.
It is yet to be seen whether Real Madrid will sign another central midfielder after they already lost Angel Di Maria who played alongside Alonso and Luca Modric in a three man midfield line.
Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, who joined the Los Blancos earlier this summer, will likely pick up one spot and James Rodriguez could be used in a deeper role similar to Di Maria last season.
