Mario Mandzukic put in a superb performance by bagging a double to help Bayern Munich to a 3-0 win over Mainz away from home on Saturday.
Mainz had managed to give as good as they got in the opening 45 minutes against the league leaders but their drive disappeared after the opening goal from Thomas Muller.
Shawn Parker had a handful of opportunities on the counter as the unsettled Bayern defence struggled to contain him but he failed to hit the target.
The game came to life in the final minutes of the half though and Javi Martinez got on the end of a Toni Kroos corner but he saw his header saved by Christian Wetklo.
Bayern would then hit the front when Kroos' pass met Muller who took it in his strike before rounding the goalkeeper and sliding the ball into the empty net from a tight angle.
The visitors upped the temp after the break and Mandzukic would double the tally with a simple finish off of a David Alaba cross.
Mainz were now struggling to hold on and Mandzukic would pop up again to make it 3-0 when he nodded past Wetklo in the 57th minute.
The rest of the match was almost like a training exercise for the visitors as they easily saw out the remainder of the game to take all three points and opened up a provisional 14-point lead at the top.
