Bayern Back On Track

Bayern Munich had to wait until the second-half before breaking down a resolute Hannover 96 defence, thanks to goals by striker Mario Mandzukic and winger Franck Ribery.

Bayern dominated possession in a very physical first 45 minutes but lacked that creative spark to open up the Hannover defence, who did however look dangerous on the counter attack.

Hannover came close to causing an upset when they came close to taking the lead when Yo Konan’s deflected off striker Sobiech and crashed off the upright.

The home side was missing Thiago Alcantara, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez and this showed in the lack of fluidity in midfield, which resulted in Ribbery and Arjen Robben having a quiet opening period.

The Bundesliga Champions had to wait until after the break when Mandzukic scored, following a sublime passing move by Toni Kroos and Robben.

French winger Ribery grabbed the second in the 64th minute after pouncing on the rebound, from an initial shot from outside the box by Dutchman Robben.

The Bavarians may have walked away with the three points, but were made to work for their victory and almost got caught out by Die Roten on the counter attack.

Pep Guardiola will be delighted to have his team back to winning ways overcoming their injury concerns and a disappointing result last weekend.
