Liverpool legend John Barnes believes that despite signing a new contract which could keep him on Merseyside until 2018, Luis Suarez could still leave Anfield.
The player has been in fantastic form making the Red’s one of a handful of teams who could clinch the Premier League title come the end of the season.
Barnes insisted though that Liverpool need to claim a top four finish to keep hold of the player who has already scored 19 goals in just 14 appearances, and that Real Madrid could come knocking if the Reds do not book a Champions League place.
“Liverpool need to finish in the top four to have any chance of holding on to Suarez,” he told TalkSport.
“That’s not to say though that, by qualifying for the Champions League, he will definitely stay.”
“He’s signed a new contract but, even if they finish fourth, if Real Madrid come in [then he’ll leave].”
“I would love him to stay but I can’t say hand on heart that he will in the summer,” the former England midfielder concluded.
