FC Barcelona’s technical director, Andoni Zubizarreta, has claimed that Luis Suarez turned down other big money offers in favour of joining the Catalan giants.
Suarez made his debut for Barcelona in the 6-0 rout over Club Leon in Johan Gamper trophy on Monday and was unveiled on Tuesday, where his new club revealed they only paid £65 million for the Uruguay forward.
“(Suarez) rejected significant offers,” Zubizarreta said Suarez’s unveiling at the Camp Nou.
"The fact he's here now is due to his desire to play here. He's always wanted to play for Barça and today he's achieved that. He's well used to handling pressure and expectation.”
The former Spanish goalkeeper went on to speculate about how Suarez would fit into a Barcelona attack that already consists of Lionel Messi and Neymar.
"Luis Suarez is a forward who can play as a front man, just behind or on either side. He's a goalscorer and a link man, he's a highly competitive player who gives us options in attack," he added.
Luis Suarez was handed the number 9 jersey at his new club, but will have to wait until the end of October before he can make his official debut, due to a four-month ban that he’s currently serving for his infamous biting incident at the World Cup in Brazil earlier this summer.
