Barcelona hope that Victor Valdes reverses his decision to leave the club. And the Blaugrana say they will not hold their goalkeeper’s flirtation with greener pastures against him if he does decide to stay.
31-year-old Valdes shocked the football world when he announced that he would not renew his contract with Barca when it expires at the end of the season.
He says he wants to experience a new football culture before he retires.
Valdes has been at Barca since joining their academy as a boy in 1995.
Since then he has gone on to make more than 350 appearances for the first-team, winning three Champions League trophies and five La Liga crowns in the process.
He is also only one of two goalkeepers ever to win the Zamora title for conceding the fewest La Liga goals in a season five times.
There were fears that Barca’s fans might turn against Valdes after he announced his decision to quit.
However, during their weekend win over Osasuna, Valdes was greeted with love and affection from the stands.
And club president Sandro Rosell says Valdes has a place at Barca for life if he wants it.
"We have the doors open for him to come and talk to us if he has a rethink," Rosell said.
"We would like it if he decided he wanted to continue his experience at Barca.
"The Camp Nou gave their verdict and they said they wanted Valdes to stay.”
