Barcelona have sent their young winger, Isaac Cuenca, to Ajax Amsterdam on loan for the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old La Masia graduate sprang to prominence during Pep Guardiola’s last season at the Camp Nou.
But his development was cut short by a knee injury that required surgery.
Having recovered from the surgery, Cuenca is ready to play, but there is no space for him in Tito Vilanova’s short-term plans.
However, much is still expected from Cuenca at Barca, and so they have sent him to Dutch champions Ajax in search of regular game time, in a similar system to their own.
Ajax have no option in the deal to make Cuenca’s stay permanent, but they are looking forward to his contribution for the rest of their Eredivisie, Dutch Cup and Europa League campaigns.
"Cuenca is a welcome reinforcement as we still are active in three competitions and not always steady with our wingers," Ajax coach Frank de Boer told reporters on Thursday night.
Barca confirmed the deal on their website, and will hope Cuenca returns to the Camp Nou next period, with his legs stretched and ready to make an impact in the first-team squad.
