Mario Balotelli could miss out on the 2013 Confederations Cup semifinals after reports suggest he was injured in Italy’s Group A match against Brazil.
Another Italian player also suspected to be injured is Riccardo Montolivo.
Both players picked up knocks during Italy’s 4-2 defeat to Brazil on Saturday night in Salvador.
Despite the result the Italians still qualified for the semifinals after winning their first two Group A matches, beating Mexico and Japan.
Montolivo had to be substituted after suffering dizzy spells due to a knock to the head. He was taken to hospital for tests, which confirmed head trauma with slight concussion meaning he is highly doubtful for the semifinal.
As for Balotelli, he was on the end of several crunching tackles and was spotted limping through the media zone after the game.
Andrea Pirlo already missed the Brazil match due to a calf problem and hopes to recover in time for Thursday’s semifinal.
Ignazio Abate’s tournament is over, as he dislocated his shoulder following a challenge from Neymar.
Daniele De Rossi will return to the line-up, as he was suspended for the match against the Brazilians.
