Real Madrid’s record signing, Gareth Bale, says his side deserves to be in the Copa del Rey final, and believes the Los Blancos have improved their defense a lot.
The 2-0 against city rivals, Atletico Madrid, in the second leg of the Spanish Cup semi-final continued Real’s unbeaten run to 24 games, and goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, has extended his personal record to 862 minutes without conceding a goal.
Bale played the full 90 minutes in the match and was fouled before the second penalty, which was then converted by Cristiano Ronaldo – his second in the game.
"We deserve to be in the Copa del Rey final, we played a great match and we’re doing well,” Bale said after the match.
"We played a great match. We did very well in the tie overall and deserve to be in the cup final.
"We are doing very well in attack, but we have improved a lot in defence. We are playing very well.
“It is great to see that what we work on in training comes off when we use it in matches and gets us the results."
Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, was satisfied with his side’s performance over both matches in the intense tie, and praised yet another clean sheet by his team.
"The advantage that we got in the first match was crucial, we also scored very soon tonight, which almost settled things," the Real boss said.
“I think that we have played well in all of our cup matches, and kept clean sheets, and that is very good. Now we’re through to the final, which is important".
The Italian then confirmed that it was important for the team to reach this year’s Copa del Rey final, even though it’s their least important competition.
“We are trying to win all of the competitions that we are in," Ancelotti added.
“This is the least important one in our plan because we have La Liga and the Champions League to play for too, but reaching a final is always a good thing for the team."
Real Madrid have progressed to their 39th Copa del Rey final, but they have lost more than half them (20).
