Erik Lamela’s father has revealed that his son is not happy at Tottenham Hotspur and “wants to go back to Italy”.
The 21-year-old joined Tottenham at the beginning of the season for €23m, and was supposed to fill the gap left by Gareth Bale, but has not been able to settle in at White Hart Lane yet.
In the Premier League, Lamela only started three games and came on as a substitute six times so far and is yet to score his first Premier League goal.
With five starts, one goal and three assist in six games, his Europa League stats look a bit better, but they can hardly satisfy a player who scored 15 goals for Roma last season.
Lamela’s stakes have not much improved after Tim Sherwood took over as Tottenham manager and his father has told Italian media that his son is missing life in Seria A.
“Erik is not happy and wants to go back to Italy,” Jose Lamela said.
“He has been linked with Lazio, but I don’t know anything about this. Could he re-join Roma? I don’t know.”
“Tottenham does not want him to leave in January.”
Will Lamela join a long list of international players who have failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League or can he find his form in the second half of the season?
