Gareth Bale could cover himself in yet more glory this season, if he scoops the two biggest individual awards in English football.
The Tottenham Hotspur star has been nominated for both the Player and Young Player of the Year awards by the Professional Footballers Association, and the bookies suggest he will win them both.
Bale’s co-nominee for both awards is Chelsea starlet Eden Hazard, but while the Belgian has been brilliant in fits and starts, Bale has been consistently better.
Also nominated for the junior award are Aston Villa’s powerful, in-demand striker Christian Benteke, on-loan West Brom striker Romelu Lukaku, and the usual suspects of Manchester United and Arsenal’s England international’s Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere.
It is intriguing to note that all of Hazard, Benteke and Lukaku are Belgian, which speaks volumes of the tiny Benelux nation’s potential to shake up international football in the near future.
Meanwhile, the young player most unlucky to miss out on selection is Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic, who has done superbly well to relegate England international Joleon Lescott to the bench in his first season at the Etihad.
Who do you think has been the best young player in the EPL this season?
