On Thursday night, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas suggested that his ace player, Gareth Bale, could go on to replicate the success of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
23-year-old Bale has some way to go in order to attain the level reached by 28-year-old CR7, but AVB says he sees similarities in their careers.
"Both of them are extremely technical players and extremely powerful and pacy," Villas-Boas said.
"Obviously it is funny to see how in some ways both players compared growing up as a striker and move to wingers.
"Gareth started at left-back and moved to a winger position, now going to a more advanced role, and Ronaldo also able to play that rule up front.
"Obviously Ronaldo is now 28, has gone and achieved so much in his career. He is an example to what Gareth wants to achieve in his career too. Yes, you can see some similarities in between the positions."
What the Spurs boss did not have in mind however, is that the similarities between Bale and Ronaldo could stretch to the club that they play for.
It seems that Real Madrid have stretched the thought that far though, with overnight reports suggesting Los Blancos are preparing a big money bid for the Welsh international.
And AVB has been forced to admit that Bale’s future at White Hart Lane is “intimately related” to their ability to establish themselves as Champions League regulars.
"Players who are performing at this level always get the attention," Villas-Boas said.
"It doesn't mean that the club doesn't foresee a future with Gareth. It's intimately related to the objectives that we achieve for the season. Hopefully, we can do just that with the Champions League and continue to progress on what we are doing.”
