Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has reportedly not given up on luring Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, to England.
The Gunners only have one first-team keeper left after Lukasz Fabianski’s contract expired and loanee Emiliano Viviano’s moved back to Palermo.
Wojciech Szczesny has played a good season for the Gunners, but Arsenal reportedly eye Casillas to offer more stability in goal.
According to Spanish paper AS, Arsenal wanted Casillas already at the beginning of last season and could now refresh their efforts.
Casillas has three years remaining on his contract, but lost his La Liga position to Diego Lopez.
He was restricted to 24 appearances last season, but Real won both competitions – namely the Copa del Rey and the Champions League – in which he started.
AS reports Wenger will use Santi Cazorla, a close friend of Casillas, and Mesut Ozil, who played with him at Real, to lure the 32-year-old to the Emirates.
Casillas and Cazorla are currently preparing with the Spanish national team for the World Cup in Brazil.
