According to Sky Sports, an Arsenal delegation is in Germany to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler before the transfer window closes on Friday.
It is reported negotiations are ongoing, but the clubs are yet to agree to a transfer fee. Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has hinted that the Gunners could be forced into new signings after the Gunners recent injury crisis.
“I hope we have something to tell you because we lost a few players now,” Wenger said when asked about possible signings.
Draxler’s buy-out clause is £37m, but reports state that Arsenal are reluctant to pay more than £30m for the German international.
Earlier this month, Schalke chairman, Clemens Tonnies, urged the 20-year-old German to stay at the Bundesliga club to avoid playing under big pressure ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“I am of the opinion he should also be with us next season," Tonnies told BILD.
"It would be my personal advice. He can play his best football without any big pressure and at our club he would have a clear mind.
"He is very much in good hands playing for Schalke 04. My general advice for everyone would be to stop making Julian mad."
