Arsenal Dump Spurs Out Of FA Cup

A goal in either half from Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky saw Arsenal dump London rivals Tottenham Hotspur out of the FA Cup.

The Gunners were by far the superior side on the day running out 2-0 winners in their FA Cup third round tie at the Emirates on Saturday.

Spurs started the brighter of the two teams and created the first opening on goal in the ninth minute as Christian Eriksen capitalised on a defensive mistake by Laurent Koscielny. The Spurs man stole the ball and drove into the box before seeing his stinging shot superbly saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Three minutes later and Arsenal created their first scoring chance when Theo Walcott let fly with a powerful long range attempt that was well-saved by Hugo Lloris.

In the 14th minute the Gunners were on the attack again after a sustained period of possession before Walcott shot on goal for a second time, but he saw his curling effort sail just wide.

The home side had taken full control of the game at this point and created another opening six minutes later following a smart one-two between Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky on the edge of the box which resulted in the former shooting just inches wide.

Cazorla was in the thick of the action in the 25th minute with a clever through ball for Walcott, but he fired his shot straight at the keeper.

In the 31st minute, Arsenal finally made their pressure tell with Cazorla finding the back of the net with a calm finish after being played through on goal by Serge Gnabry, 1-0.

Spurs, though, had the last say of the half when Roberto Soldado let fly from the edge of the box in the 45th minute, but he saw his attempt go wide.

The start of the second 45 was a tight affair as both side’s kept it tight at the back, but it was Arsenal who created the first chance of the second stanza in the 60th minute when Walcott rounded the keeper, but saw his shot from an acute angle strike the side-netting.

Two minutes later, however, and Arsenal did find their second goal after a mistake in defence by Danny Rose saw the ball stolen off him by Rosicky. The Gunners man drove towards goal and chipped the onrushing keeper to double his side’s lead, 2-0.

Spurs tried to find their way back into the match, but were unable to breach the Arsenal defence as they crashed out of the FA Cup.
