Arsenal have reportedly agreed a fee of around £15m with FC Barcelona for the sale of captain Thomas Vermaelen.
The 28-year-old had also been linked with Manchester United, but Arsene Wenger confirmed he doesn’t want to sell Vermaelen to a direct rival.
According to the BBC, Vermaelen is now set to join Barcelona but still has to agree personal terms and pass his medical in the coming days.
The Belgium international is Barcelona’s second centre-back signing after they already bought Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia for £16m.
The move to Barcelona is likely to be completed this weekend, ending Vermaelen’s five-year stay in London.
However, the clubs are yet to confirm the deal.
