Argentina & Uruguay End Scoreless

Argentina & Uruguay End Scoreless

Lionel Messi's Argentina took on Uruguay in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday morning, with the match finishing in a draw.

The game in Montevideo got off to a slow start, with both sides struggling to find rhythm. However, Uruguay, despite losing their last three qualifiers, looked more confident in the opening 15 minutes.

Neither side were able to create clear goalscoring chances in the first 30 minutes, although it was Argentina who looked more dangerous going forward, with Messi creating play from deep.

The first real effort at goal came 36 minutes into the clash, with Uruguay's Cristian Rodriguez shooting from range, only for Sergio Romero to parry the ball into the path of Edinson Cavani, who could not find the back of the net from the rebound.

Messi then came close for Argentina before half-time after some clever link-up play with Paulo Dybala led to the FC Barcelona man striking the ball from just inside Uruguay's box, an effort shot-stopper Fernando Muslera was equal to.

The match was still goalless after 60 minutes, although the away side continued to look the more threatening of the two teams. The 70th minute passed with still no breakthrough, with both sides finding chances difficult to come by.

The rest of the qualifier continued with Argentina seeing most of the possession, but neither the Albiceleste nor Uruguay were able to score.
