Manager Jorge Sampaoli has named his 22-man Argentina squad for their upcoming clashes against Italy and Spain, and several stars were snubbed once again.

Click through the gallery above to see some Argentina stars who missed out on their national team's latest squad.

The Albiceleste, who are preparing for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, will face Italy at the Etihad Stadium, home of Premier League leaders Manchester City, on 23 March, and then take on Spain four days later at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano.

Sampaoli's latest squad sees Everton's defender Ramiro Funes Mori and Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain return to the national team, while Carlos Tevez and Paulo Dybala miss out, alongside Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi.

The former Chile manager has announced his international contingent, but will add a few more local players, who are based in Argentina, to the group in the coming days.

Here is Argentina's 22-man squad in full, as announced by the Argentina Football Association:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Manchester United), Nahuel Guzman (Tigres), Willy Caballero (Chelsea)

Defenders: Javier Mascherano (Hebei China Fortune), Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City), Federico Fazio (Roma), Gabriel Mercado (Sevilla), Marcos Rojo (Manchester United), Ramiro Funes Mori (Everton), Marcos Acuna (Sporting CP), Nicolas Tagliafico (Ajax Amsterdam)

Midfielders: Lucas Biglia (AC Milan), Ever Banega (Sevilla), Leandro Paredes (Zenit St Petersburg), Manuel Lanzini (West Ham), Giovani Lo Celso (Paris Saint-Germain), Diego Perotti (Roma), Eduardo Salvio (Benfica)

Forwards: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus), Angel Di Maria (Paris Saint-Germain)

Former Bafana Coach: FIFA Shouldn't Allow Messi To Play!

Argentina are drawn in Group D with Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia for the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
