The Champions League match ended 4-1 in Real Madrid’s favour, but it could have been different after Sergio Ramos had been sent off with an hour still to play.
But Arbeloa- who scored Real’s second goal during a surprisingly brilliant display- says that Ancelotti’s tactical acumen enabled Los Blancos to power their way home, in spite of their numerical disadvantage.
"The team played very well in the second half,” Arbeloa told Real Madrid's official website after the match.
"The coach was right with the tactical change and we pressed more.
"I am grateful to the Bernabeu crowd, who know how things are, and when you do things well they recognise it."
Arbeloa also gave special mention to his former Liverpool team-mate Xabi Alonso, who celebrated exuberantly with him after he netted the goal that restored Madrid’s lead.
Alonso’s future at the Bernabeu is uncertain, but it is clear what Arbeloa thinks about the classy midfielder.
"Xabi is a very good friend. Everyone says we depend on Alonso. The problem is not ours, it is theirs because he is the best,” he said.
"His presence changes everything. There is no one in the world like him and he is a central pillar to this team.”
