Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala have denied reports that they are keen to sign Portuguese international winger, Nani.
The 26-year-old has one year left to run on his contract with the Red Devils, and over the past two seasons has slipped further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
He could be a bargain buy for an ambitious team, but reports during the last transfer window suggested his wage demands were too high for suitors in Russia and elsewhere.
Izvestia has now reported that Anzhi are on the verge of signing Nani from United.
But club chairman Konstantin Remchukov denies that Anzhi is negotiating with United over Nani’s signature.
“The rumours about Nani are not accurate. At all,” he tweeted.
United already had a surfeit of top-quality wide players even before young England international Wilfreid Zaha signed from Crystal Palace.
Zaha is expected to push for a place in the starting line-up this season, meaning another player will have to lose out.
All of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Ryan Giggs and Nani will be wary of Zaha’s talent.
And considering that Nani could conceivably leave for free in 12 months’ time, someone other than Anzhi is sure to consider him an attractive purchase.
Should Nani move to another team, or is he still useful to Manchester United?
