Manchester United have unveiled their new signing Angel Di Maria and announced the 26-year-old will wear the iconic No.7 shirt at Old Trafford.
The British transfer record signing from Real Madrid joins an elite club of players who have excelled in the shirt, which has been vacant since Antonio Valencia reverted to no.25 last summer.
Di Maria will follow in the footsteps of United greats like Bryan Robson, George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Di Maria's former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Michael Owen inherited the No.7 shirt during his two-season career with the Reds – and wore it to score a historic Manchester derby winner at Old Trafford – before Valencia took it on for just one term in 2012/13.
Di Maria said he was pleased to join the Red Devils and wants to win many trophies at Old Trafford.
"I'm very pleased to play for Manchester United. I want to hep the team get into the Champions League,” he said at his unveiling.
"I come here in order to win many trophies with them.
"My position depends on Louis van Gaal, I am prepared to play in any position. I just want to help Manchester United to be successful again."
