Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, heaped praises over his side’s 3-0 victory in last night’s Copa del Rey semi-final derby against Atletico Madrid and wishes his team could always play like this.
Ancelotti believes he has seen the best performance of the Los Blancos and says the loss in their La Liga game against Atletico motivated them to set the record straight.
“I think it was (the best performance). I wish the team could always play like they did tonight,” Ancelotti said.
“Above all because the team we were facing is a very difficult team to play against. They are very strong and aggressive, so I thought we played very well,” he said.
"I am completely satisfied with the match, everyone did fantastically. We did everything right; we recovered the ball well and were very aggressive and compact.
“The loss in La Liga hurt us and we had the awareness to do things better this time.
“A lot has changed, we are playing more naturally, the team is more compact and playing together better.
“Our team showed that we can play matches like this and we have to do that as consistently as possible because now every match is important.”
The Italian had special praises for goal scorer Jese, gave an update on why he rested Gareth Bale and confirmed that Real appealed against the three-match ban for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Everyone knows that Jesé is very important to us. He scores goals in big matches," the 54-year-old continued.
“He (Gareth Bale) hasn’t taken a turn for the worse or anything, he is fine and I preferred to rest him because Cristiano can’t play on Saturday and having Gareth fresh will be good. He’ll be there on Saturday".
"No one is happy about it (Ronaldo’s three-match ban). Not being able to play for three matches is not normal. That is why we appealed. It would be normal for him to have the suspension reduced because three matches for what he did is not normal".
Ancelotti then warned his players to believe the Cup tie is already over and urged them to produce a similar display in next week’s rematch.
"The result is very good and the match was too, but we have to be careful," Ancelotti added.
“We have to do the same in the second leg, but it will not be easy because Atlético Madrid will do their best to turn things around. We have to prepare well for the match, like we did for tonight’s".
Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone, meanwhile, was left frustrated with his side’s luck, seeing two goals coming from deflected shots, and highlighted that there are still another 90 minutes to play.
“I think Real Madrid played very well, but they scored twice with shots that hit our players on the body and went in.
“It is a very favourable result for the opponent, but apart from that there is nothing I can draw from the game at the moment.
“We still have 90 minutes to play and anything can happen in football.”
