The smart money has long been on Franck Ribery to win the Ballon d’Or this year, thanks to his incredible feats for Bayern Munich last season.
But Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is making a hard to argue against case in his favour with his own stellar form.
Not a match seems to go by without CR7 troubling the scoresheet, and he is currently the top scorer in this season’s La Liga and Champions League campaigns.
He may not be a centre forward, but Los Blancos rely on him as one. And no team in which Ronaldo plays actually needs a striker, such is his prolific net busting rate.
And if Portugal make it to next year’s World Cup, it will be in large part due to their skipper, CR7.
The first leg of their playoff against Sweden last week was a tightly contested affair. But you needn’t even bother guessing who was responsible for the winning goal.
With Ribery, Ronaldo and four-time winner Lionel Messi the best bets to win the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo’s manager at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, knows who he will be putting his money on.
“Cristiano is doing extraordinary things,” Ancelotti told Radio Deejay.
“Does he deserve the Ballon d’Or? Absolutely.
“I expect him to win the award. He is a serious professional, who cares about every detail of his game.
“If others want to be great champions, they should look at Cristiano.”
