Alves On A Messi/Neymar Axis

Dani Alves has become the latest in a long line of people associated to Barcelona to talk up Neymar’s potential move to the club.

Alves and Neymar are team-mates on the Brazilian national team, and so the Barca star is well-placed to comment on the young Santos man’s suitability to Spanish champions.

Alves says that Neymar would be more than happy to share the limelight with superstar Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou. In fact, according to Alves, fears of a possible clash of egos between the two are entirely unfounded, due to Neymar’s “humility.”

Alves thinks that Neymar and Messi would gel explosively for Barca, and that the addition of a sparkling attacking talent would help to ease the goal burden on La Pulga Atomica’s shoulders.

"When two players are good, they understand each other better," Alves said, according to ESPN.

"They play in different positions. I do not think there would be a problem of incompatibility, because Neymar is a very humble kid. He does not want to be a leading figure off the pitch."

"If [Neymar] comes it will be a relief because it would help Messi a lot," Alves added.

"There are times when we lacked someone [else] to unbalance opponents. Neymar has this ability, in comparison with other players in the squad."

Meanwhile, Alves has sought to clarify his own status at Barca, after he mentioned to the media that he would listen to offers from ambitious clubs like PSG and Monaco.

While he is reluctant to pledge the rest of his future to Barca, Alves insists that he is not contemplating walking out on the Blaugrana anytime soon.

"You never know what will happen in the future," the 29-year-old wing-back said.

"The more open doors you have, the better things can go for you in the future. But I am very happy at Barca and intend to stay at this club until they can no longer put up with me."
