International Transfer Round-Up

The European transfer window has closed on Monday and the top five league's spent an impressive £1.87 billion on transfers. Here our final International Transfer Round-Up.

Manchester United were the biggest spenders this summer, after buying six players for £145.5 million, including a British transfer record for £59.7 million for Angel Di Maria and securing an impressive loan-deal for Radamel Falcao.

Barcelona, after their original transfer ban had been suspended, are second to United when it comes to spending this summer. Overall, the Catalan giants spent almost £140 million on new arrivals and will only be allowed to sign their next player in January 2016.

They also wrapped up the biggest transfer of the summer after buying Luis Suarez from Liverpool for £75 million (the club claim they paid £65 million, while Liverpool report £75 million).

Third in the spending rankings are Liverpool, who paid £134 million to prepare their squad for Champions League football, with Mario Balotelli their most impressive arrival for £16 million.

Real Madrid came in in fourth place after spending £108 million after the Los Blancos bought James Rodriguez for £63 million – the second-highest buy this window – and German World Cup champion, Toni Kroos, for £23 million.

The fourth biggest signing this summer was David Luiz, who moved from Chelsea to PSG for £50 million.

Another impressive transfer saw Alexis Sanchez move from Barcelona to Arsenal for £32 million, while Chelsea paid the same amount for Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas joined the Blues for £27 million.

Bayern Munich may have made the steal of the window, after signing Borussia Dortmund star, Robert Lewandowski, for free.

Overall, Europe’s top five league’s spent almost £1.9 billion on transfer. English clubs were the biggest spenders with £835 million, followed by La Liga (£425 million), Seria A (£260 million), Bundesliga (£250 million) and French Ligue 1 (£100 million).
