There was a bit of good news for Jose Mourinho as he welcomed the return of David de Gea in goal, while new signing Fred, a Brazil international, was handed his first start of the tour.
The match was Los Blancos' first since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Juventus, although fans got to see Brazilian wonderkid Vinicius Junior in action for the Spanish giants for the first time.
The Red Devils, who are at the end of their pre-season tour, took charge of the game from the start of the match and created their first opportunity within the first five minutes. Sanchez picked out Juan Mata with a delightful pass, but the Spaniard was unable to get a shot on target from close range.
In the 18th minute, former Arsenal forward Sanchez opened the scoring for Mourinho's side when Andreas Pereira played Matteo Darmian a clever through-ball into the box. The right-back squared the ball for Sanchez, who found the back of the net with relative ease.
United doubled their lead nine minutes later when Darmian, Mata and Sanchez combined to set up Ander Herrera, who fired a half-volley past Real goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.
Julen Lopetegui's men got on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time, when French striker Karim Benzema pulled one back after latching on to a Theo Hernandez cross.
The second half was in complete contrast to the first as United, who were so dominant, struggled to string passes together against an improved Madrid, who could not find the back of the net, with the game ending 2-1.
