Ajax Amsterdam have refuted the rumours that they are on the verge of selling their star playmaker, Christian Eriksen, to Borussia Dortmund.
The Champions League finalists are believed to have chosen 21-year-old Danish international Eriksen to replace Mario Gotze in the heart of their midfield, after he ripped their heart out by joining Bayern Munich on the sly.
It has been reported that a disagreement over roughly €3 million is slowing Eriksen’s inevitable transfer to the Westfalenstadion.
But Ajax’s sporting director, Marc Overmars, says that they are yet to have official transfer talks with Dortmund over any deal.
“Danish newspapers ran numerous stories about a concrete offer, but Dortmund have not contacted us,” Overmars told voetbalzone.nl.
Signing Eriksen would be an astute move for Dortmund.
He is technically gifted, can dictate the pace of a game, spot a killer pass, and has an eye for goal.
His arrival would go a long way towards the healing the hurt of Gotze’s departure.
But Dortmund are not the only team with designs on Eriksen, with English Premier League side Liverpool also reportedly in the running to sign him.
It will be interesting to see where Eriksen lands up next season, as the consensus in European football circles is that he could soon be a real star of the continental game.
