Hosts Namibia got off to the perfect start of the African Women's Championship as they beat Zambia 2-0 in the opening game.
Goals from Rita Williams and Thomalina Adams in the first half of the game gave the Brave Gladiators the victory at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Infront of a capacity crowd the Namibians put the Zambians on the backfoot from the onset, and thoroughly deserved their victory.
Williams opened the scored just four minutes into the game, after a goalmouth flurry.
In the 22nd minute the highly-popular Adams made it 2-0 with a great shot from a set piece.
Zambia tried to come back into the game in the second half, but the host held on for a good win.
In the later game, favourites Nigeria beat Ivory Coast 4-2 in a thrilling match with Esther Sunday, a Miriam Diakite own goal, Desire Oparanozie, with a brace, being the goalscorers for Nigeria.
The competition continues on Sunday when South Africa take on Cameroon and Ghana meet Algeria.
