Tanzania Knock Out Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s hopes of qualifying for the 2015 Afcon were dashed when they failed to use home ground advantage in a 2-2 draw with visiting Tanzania.

The East Africans managed a 2-3 goal aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 in Dar Es Salaam a fortnight ago.

Zimbabwe Warriors started the game like a house on fire when Danny Phiri, who scored a brace in the game, drew first blood in the 3rd minute after a sublime Edward Sadomba cross that found him with acres of space as he fired the ball past Taifa stars keeper Deogratius Munishi .

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars quickly regrouped and pile pressure on their hosts which paid off handlsomely in the 22nd minute when captain Nadir Haroub rose to head home to level after s sublime Thomas Ulimwengu cross as the ball went past keeper George Chigova.

The match went to the break as both teams went to the break tied at 1-1 draw .

Upon resumption from the break Thomas Ulimwengu turned from provider to scorw as he put Tanzania ahead with a cool finish past Chigova to give Tanzania a 2-1 lead putting pressure on hosts Zimbabwe.

Danny Phiri completed his brace for Warriors in the 56th minute but it was not enough to give them the lead as Tanzania held on to the draw breaking the hearts of thousands of fans who graced the stadium and putting the career of coach Ian Gorowa in the line after being knocked out by the East Africans who remained relentless.
