In the second of two Barcelona-related ‘Thiago’ transfer travails, Blaugrana defender Adriano claims his Brazil team-mate, Thiago Silva, wishes he played for the Spanish champions.
The Brazil and PSG skipper is Barca’s number one transfer target, after they signed his compatriot Neymar.
Many Barca fans would have preferred the club to do things the other way around, by signing a world class defender to shore up their porous back line before splurging on another glitzy attacking talent.
But now seems that Barca’s full attention is on their defence, as their tried and tested method of players blabbing to the media swings into motion.
They did it with Cesc Fabregas and they did it with Neymar, and now Adriano is doing it with Silva, saying that if “it were up to Thiago, he'd be here.”
Adriano is Silva’s friend, and so could very well know what the 28-year-old is thinking.
"He told me if he could come to Barcelona [it] would be a dream," Adriano told RAC1.
"He has always wanted to wear the Barca shirt, we are friends and I talk a lot with him. His arrival would be very good news if Barca signed him.
"If it were up to Thiago, he'd be here. But it doesn't just depend on him. PSG have also invested heavily in him and, if Barca want him, they need to find an agreement with the club.”
Barca reportedly made a cheeky €32 million bid for Thiago last week, but it would surely take much more than that to convince the French champions to sell their skipper- a player they have repeatedly insisted they do not want to lose.
And almost immediately after Adriano made his leading claims, Silva’s agent moved to deny the player is nearing a transfer to the Camp Nou.
"Thiago Silva and his agent Paulo Tonietto deny the information referring to the transfer of the player to Barcelona," the agent tweeted.
