Manchester United have announced their squad numbers for the new Premier League season with Adnan Januzaj being given the No.11 shirt of Ryan Giggs.
United decided not to retire the shirt number of their Welsh club legend after the 40-year-old retired following 22 years of playing for the Red Devils. 19-year-old Januzaj has now taken Giggs’ number after he wore the No.44 last season.
The Belgium starlet broke into the first-team under David Moyes and his fine performances with four goals in 27 Premier League games earned him a new contract in October. Many expect him to be the next Giggs or Ronaldo at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, summer signing Luke Shaw, who has been ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring injury, will wear the No.3 last worn by Patrick Evra.
Ander Herrera has been given the No.21, while Van Gaal has fuelled speculation of new arrivals by leaving three first-team numbers vacant.
The iconic No.7, formerly worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Bryan Robson and George Best, is free after Antonio Valencia reverted back to No.25.
The No.9 is also yet to be assigned as well as Rio Ferdinand’s former No.5. The vacant numbers give a massive indication that United are still in the market for a centre-back as well as stellar signing for the No.7 stirt.
