10 Players Who Became Richer After Football

Most players aim to make the bulk of their money during their professional careers, but here are 10 footballers who have become even wealthier since hanging up their boots.

The majority of footballers enjoy taking home their biggest cheques during their playing careers, and sadly do not earn anywhere near what they did once they have retired.

This is not, however, the case for the 10 former professionals in the gallery above, who all managed to become successful businessmen outside of the beautiful game, earning an even more stable cash flow following the hanging up of their boots.

Despite playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world in Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United, Michael Owen's horse racing passion is said to have made him even wealthier than when he was beating defenders and scoring goals.

Another ex-Red Devils striker, Louis Saha, has enjoyed similar results after his career, except he is the founder of a company called AxisStars, which helps professional footballers and big brands find each other.

The Frenchman is believed to have been inspired by the lack of financial support he had when he retired, and now helps hundreds of players around the world, including athletes from other sports entirely.

Women's football legend Mia Hamm was unable to earn big money during her career, and especially not through football. Hamm, who scored 158 goals for the United States of America's women's national team, made most of her income through sponsorships during her time as a player, but has since become a co-owner of Los Angeles FC.

Dexter Blackstock is arguably the least popular name in our gallery, having played in the lower leagues of English football, but has amassed a big net worth for his work in the pharmaceutical industry.

Former Ghana international Gyan is also reported to have earned big money since his last job as a footballer, and has invested in many businesses throughout his career. The 34-year-old has not technically ended his career as a player, but has been without a club since January 2020.
