10 Famous One-Club Players

While players such as Itumeleng Khune and Lionel Messi have only played for one club, there is still time for them to move on to new pastures. Here, however, are 10 footballers who began and ended their careers at one team.

Click through the gallery above to see 10 players who spent their entire career at a single club.

South African goalkeeper Khune has been a Kaizer Chiefs first-team player since 2004, while Messi has been in FC Barcelona's senior side for the same number of years.

While both the shot-stopper and the six-time Ballon d'Or winner could be considered as one-club footballers, there is still time for that to change before they eventually hang up their boots.

Not even retired stars such as Steven Gerrard, John Terry or Frank Lampard fall into our one-club player category, and the same goes for Spanish legends Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.

Paolo Maldini, however, is a perfect example meeting the criteria of having begun and ended his playing career at a single club, and did not leave to go out on loan for a different team in his younger days either.

The Italy legend started his senior career at AC Milan in 1985, played 901 matches and won 25 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles, before hanging up his boots in 2009.

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes represented the Red Devils in two spells either side of a career break, and never wore the professional shirt of another club, while Francesco Totti played for Roma's senior side from 1993 to 2017.

The Italian is understood to have rejected the chance to move to Real Madrid on more than one occasion in his career, but always chose to remain loyal to his boyhood club. To see some more footballers who retired having played for just a single team, click through the gallery above!
