Following the signing of midfielder Frenkie de Jong for €75 million (R1.19 billion), LaLiga giants FC Barcelona are reportedly vying for another Ajax Amsterdam player, an African star who could cost them about €20 million (R318 milllion).
According to Catalunya Radio, the Blaugrana are reportedly monitoring Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana with keen interest, and are said to be considering a move for the 22-year-old should second-choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen decide to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
The Dutchman, who has been forced to play second fiddle to Germany international Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the majority of the campaign, has been a regular for the Camp Nou outfit in the Copa del Rey, and is said to be unhappy at the lack of game time he is getting.
Should Cillessen seek greener pastures elsewhere at the end of the season, Barca will reportedly be frontrunners for Onana's signature, with reports suggesting the LaLiga giants have already made contact with the African star's representatives.
The Cameroon shot-stopper spent a large part of his development at Samuel Eto'o's youth academy before joining Barcelona's world-renowned La Masia academy, spending five years there before he decided to move on to Ajax in 2015.
Onana's current contract with the Dutch giants expires June 2021. The shot-stopper has made 121 appearances across all competitions for Ajax's senior side so far, keeping 55 clean sheets since making his top-flight debut in 2016.
