Paris Saint-Germain Respond To FC Barcelona Suing Neymar
Paris Saint-Germain have released a statement in response to FC Barcelona's decision to take legal action against Neymar for breach of contract.
On Tuesday, the Blaugrana announced they would be suing the Brazilian international for failing to fulfil his side of a deal he signed in October 2016.
The Catalan giants are reportedly seeking €8.5 million (R132 million) in damages, and an additional 10% in interest.
In a statement released on Tuesday, PSG said they are "surprised" by the Spanish side's claims, and insisted that there was no wrongdoing in their purchase of Neymar.
"Paris Saint-Germain was surprised to learn of FC Barcelona's statement today announcing the start of legal proceedings in Spain against its former player Neymar Jr. and indicating that should Neymar Jr. fail to pay the monies claimed by his former club, Paris Saint-Germain will be held responsible for paying the outstanding sum," the statement on PSG's official website read.
"Paris Saint-Germain reiterates that, like Neymar Jr., it has always respected all applicable laws and rules in its dealings and, once again, regrets the attitude of FC Barcelona."
The 25-year-old departed the Catalan giants in a world record transfer worth €222 million (R3.4 billion) at the beginning of the window.
