La Liga Refuse Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar Payment
La Liga has refused to accept a €222 million (R3.4 billion) payment from Paris Saint-Germain's for FC Barcelona star Neymar.
According to Spanish publication AS, La Liga president Javier Tebas has followed through on his threat of not accepting the French side's bid for the Brazilian.
Lawyers representing the Ligue 1 club and Neymar arrived at the league's offices in Madrid this morning with the intention of handing over the release clause, but it was not accepted.
According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the visit to the La Liga offices only lasted 15 minutes before the representatives were turned away.
La Liga later confirmed that the reports were true.
"We can confirm that the lawyers of the player (Neymar) have come to La Liga to deposit the clause and that it has been rejected. It is all the information we will give so far," a statement from La Liga read, according to AS.
Neymar bid farewell to his Barcelona teammates on Wednesday, and is expected to be unveiled as a PSG player on Friday.
