Technical secretary Robert Fernandez and Barcelona director Javier Bordas allegedly traveled to Lisbon in order to negotiate a deal for Benfica’s Nelson Semedo.

The 23-year-old has been identified as a new right-back target after talks with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin turned out complicated.

Semedo made 47 appearances for Benfica last season, scoring two goals and assisting in another 12.

The Catalan giants reportedly had a first bid of €30 million (R450m) rejected, with Benfica allegedly asking for €55 million (R826m) for their player.

New Barca boss Ernesto Valverde wants the deal to be completed as soon as possible so that Semedo can join the team’s upcoming American tour.

Barcelona struggled in the right-back position since Dani Alves left in 2016, with Sergi Roberto often filling the gap out of position after Aleix Vidal suffered a long-term injury.
