'Cristiano Ronaldo Could Join Manchester United Or Chelsea'

Rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid in this window have not dried up, and a former Portugal teammate of his has now insisted he could join Manchester United or even Chelsea.

The Portugal captain reportedly reacted angrily following recent tax fraud allegations being levelled at him – Ronaldo and his representatives have been accused of tax fraud to the tune of €14.7 million (R213 million) between 2011 and 2014.

It has since been rumoured that he could leave Los Blancos and Spain altogether, and his compatriot Raul Meireles has now insisted a return to the Premier League would be perfect for him.

"He's triumphed before in England and if he were to leave Real Madrid, then I feel the Premier League is the best place for him," the former Liverpool midfielder told Sky Sports.

"He's already played with United and could go back there. He could also play with Chelsea.

"He could play with any Premier side and be a success."

Ronaldo is Real's all-time top goalscorer, and helped guide his club to three UEFA Champions League titles in four years.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez confirmed Ronaldo is unhappy with the treatment he receives from sections of the media earlier this week, but remains calm over his superstar's future and will chat with him after the FIFA Confederations Cup, in which Portugal will face Chile in the semi-final on Wednesday night.
