On deadline day alone, the Blues failed to confirm the signings of Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and former Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente. According to English publication the Daily Mirror, Barkley decided against making a move during his medical with the London side, while Llorente, 32, joined Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea City instead.

England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Reports claimed that the Blues had agreed a fee with Arsenal for the player, but Oxlade-Chamberlain decided against the switch because he reportedly had concerns over what positions he would play at Stamford Bridge, and ended up joining Liverpool instead.

The Sun linked Conte's men with Bayern Munich defender Rafinha and former Juventus centre back Leonardo Bonucci. Rafinha, 31, decided to stay at the Allianz Arena, while Bonucci made a surprise move to AC Milan.
