Back in 2013, Willian arrived for a medical at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a £30 million (R506 million) transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala. However, Chelsea hijacked the move at the last minute, and Willian has since made 181 appearances for the Blues since.

Another famous U-turn happened when David Beckham famously announced he would be joining LA Galaxy on a free deal once his Real Madrid contract expired in six months' time. With that announcement coming in January, then Los Blancos boss Fabio Capello said Beckham would not play for him again, despite his contract still running until June. However, the coach changed his mind just a month later and Beckham was back in the starting line-up, helping Real win the La Liga title before leaving the club.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was set to leave AC Milan in this window after the club and his agent Mino Raiola could not agree on an extension of his contract, which was set to expire in June 2018. However, following public outburst by fans, which led to Donnarumma's family speaking to the 18-year-old, he had a change of heart and opted to extend his stay after all.
