The Gunners reportedly offered a whopping £92 million (R1.5 billion) for Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco at one stage on Deadline Day, after agreeing a £60 million (R1 billion) sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City.

However, due to the advanced stage of the window and Lemar playing in France's 4-0 victory against the Netherlands – a game in which he scored a brace – Arsenal decided to pull out of the deal and block Sanchez's move to City, according to Sky Sports.

Another deal that broke down at the 11th hour was Ross Barkley's switch from Everton to Chelsea. The England international had already arrived for a medical with the Blues after both clubs agreed a £30 million (R502 million) transfer, but seemingly changed his mind during the examinations.

Philippe Coutinho, who, in theory, could still join FC Barcelona, is another player whose transfer has seemingly broken down. Even though the Brazilian could still join the Catalan giants before the Spanish window closes at midnight on Friday, all reports from England suggest he is not for sale.
