In an unexpected turn of events, it has been reported that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been offered to his former club FC Barcelona, despite being heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid.
The Brazilian has been a long-term target for Los Blancos, with president Florentino Perez said to be a big admirer of the 26-year-old.
Many believe Neymar is likely to land up at Real at some point in the future, whether that be in this transfer window or ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
According to Marca, however, the player's camp has offered Neymar back to the Catalan club, in the event PSG decide they are willing to let him leave in this current window.
It is believed that Neymar's entourage want to find out if Josep Maria Bartomeu would be willing to have the player back in Spain following his controversial world-record transfer at the start of this previous campaign.
It has been claimed that the Brazilian and those closest to him are all too aware that certain Barca players have publicly admitted they would not like to see him at Real, including Lionel Messi, who recently claimed he has spoken to Neymar about those rumours.
Another twist is that it now appears highly unlikely that Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann will join Barca, after his move to the Blaugrana seemed all but confirmed – he has since confirmed he is staying at the Vicente Calderon.
It has been said, though, that Barca would struggle to sign Neymar due to financial reasons, with the club expected to end their financial year with only a small profit.
Neymar, who cost PSG €222 million (R3.4 billion), would not be sold for any amount cheaper than that, which could see his next club pay in the region of €300 million (R4.6 billion) for his signature.
