The Portugal captain scored his fourth goal at this year’s FIFA World Cup after just four minutes against Morocco on Wednesday afternoon, taking his tally at football’s biggest showpiece to seven strikes over four tournaments.

Overall, Ronaldo has now scored 85 goals in 152 appearances for his national team, more than any player in European history.

In doing so, he broke the 62-year-old record of Hungary legend Ferenc Puskas, who retired with 84 goals in 89 games.

At international level, only Iran’s Ali Daei, who struck 109 times in 149 games, has scored more on the international stage worldwide.
