France Star Feels Sorry For Lionel Messi

With Didier Deschamps' France going up against Argentina in the round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday, a certain Les Bleus star has admitted he feels Lionel Messi is playing under too much pressure.

Messi Breaks Maradona Record, Writes World Cup History

The Argentine is often criticised for his performances with his national team, but numbers have shown that the Albiceleste perform far worse without the FC Barcelona forward in the side.

France defender Samuel Umtiti, a club teammate of Messi's, believes that, more often than not, the 31-year-old saves Argentina's blushes, and does not warrant the criticism he gets.

"I see him every day. It is very hard to stop him. He's got outstanding qualities," he said, according to the Daily Express.

"We will try to stop him but he's not the only one in this Argentina team – they have other strikers.

"He is different with Argentina than with Barcelona. He does not have the same players with him and their way of playing is different, but he has saved them on several occasions.

"The Argentineans are tough on him, but he cannot do everything on his own."

Messi has scored just once at the 2018 World Cup so far, but will be hoping to add to his tally on Saturday afternoon.
